I recently tried the demo of Portal on XBLA, and was really impressed by this offbeat game. I went ahead and purchased it (1200 points -- the only downside!), and have had a blast playing it. This is unlike any other FPS I've played, because the focus is all on the puzzle-solving aspect. A few maps have timing/agility aspects as well, but generally it's all about playing smart and staying alive.

The game did feel a bit short, but it was still very satisfying. The challenge maps, which are stand-alone maps not part of the main game, are a nice bonus for replayability because you are trying to achieve certain scores on each challenge map, like fewest footsteps, lowest time, fewest portals, and so on. There are also some cool easter eggs / achievements sprinkled throughout the game.

I think Pat would really appreciate the deadpan humor of this game, but I suspect all the bubbas would enjoy it. Try the demo out for yourself!

Yep, spectacular game.  I

Yep, spectacular game.  I can't believe I forgot to review it.  ;-)  I made Jodi watch the final battle and the endgame song.  I went back and finished the 6 advanced maps included in the Orange Box version.  Have not played XBLA version yet.

I know, that endgame song

I know, that endgame song is fantastic. I really enjoyed the dark humor sprinkled throughout this game as well. Funny, Pat, how you were the first person that came to mind as "someone I know would love this game."

I was really intrigued by

I was really intrigued by this game, but didn't want to buy the whole Orange Box just for that one.

Now that it's separate, it's still tempting.  Unfortunatley, my game-time is all taken up with GoW2, Warcraft's new Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and the weekly Company of Heroes sessions w/Shannon and friends.

Being childless does sometime have its perks. ;)

Yes, it is fantastically

Yes, it is fantastically twisted.  I got the orange box for $10 used, so it was worth it... the other games are fine, I just haven't bothered playing them.
